On August 14, 1502 Christopher Columbus landed on the mainland of Honduras.  He named the country Honduras ("depths") for the deep waters off its coast.

Many Indians were made slaves as more boats came over from Europe. One priest on the Venezuela coast gave a John the Baptist sermon saying it was like a wilderness how they treated the Indian slaves & one man listened & freed the slaves on his plantation, then became a priest & went back to Europe with his priest converter to successfully have the King free all the Indian slaves in the new world by edict. This paved the way for de las Casas, the new priest to become extremely busy teaching the new religion to some of the 4 million converts after Mary's appearance to Juan Diego soon after the Indians freedom.
